About Nunjikompita

Nunjikompita is a remote rural locality in the Ceduna area of far western South Australia, located about 464 kilometres from Adelaide near the Gawler Ranges. The landscape features semi-arid to arid country with mallee woodland and broad pastoral land, near stony hills formed by ancient volcanic activity approximately 1,595 million years ago. The region has been home to Aboriginal peoples including the Barngarla, Kokatha, and Wirangu for at least 40,000 years, and Edward John Eyre named the Gawler Ranges after Governor George Gawler in 1839, with pastoral settlement beginning in 1857. The area supports sheep and cattle grazing in one of the more remote South Australian localities.
