About Pirie East
Pirie East is a rural locality in the Port Pirie Regional Council of the Mid North region of South Australia, located about 10 kilometres east of Port Pirie and 193 kilometres from Adelaide. The landscape features flat to gently undulating coastal plains with remnant mallee scrub on the low-lying floodplains near the Broughton River estuary, with a semi-arid climate receiving about 345 millimetres of annual rainfall. Part of the traditional land of the Nukunu people, the area supports wheat and sheep farming and is influenced by its proximity to Port Pirie's smelting industry.
