About Farrell Flat
Farrell Flat is a small town in the Clare Valley region of South Australia, situated approximately 20 kilometres east of Clare and 22 kilometres south-west of Burra. The town was surveyed as Hanson in 1870 and renamed Farrell Flat in 1940, after Colonial Chaplain and Dean of Adelaide James Farrell. Once the heart of a thriving farming community, Farrell Flat today retains its own identity with a functioning hotel, cafe and grain silos, and was once a stop on the Roseworthy-Peterborough railway line until the last train ran through in 2004.
