About Dowlingville
Dowlingville is a locality on the east coast of the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia, adjoining Gulf St Vincent about 89 kilometres north-west of Adelaide. The name is thought to derive from G. P. Dowling Whittaker, an early resident and grandson of Rev. George Pike Dowling of Somerset. A 1904 account described a small farming district of just a few houses, a store, a post office run by Whittaker, a state school and a church, on land cleared of scrub only a few years before. The former Dowlingville Post Office is listed on the South Australian Heritage Register.
