About Coomooroo
Coomooroo is a rural locality in the Mid North of South Australia, on the traditional lands of the Ngadjuri people and within the District Council of Orroroo Carrieton, with a small western portion in the District Council of Mount Remarkable. The Hundred of Coomooroo was named in 1875 by Governor Anthony Musgrave, after a word said to mean small food seeds in an Aboriginal language, and the district, once informally known as Poverty Corner, was formally named Coomooroo at the council's request. Its school opened in 1881 and closed in 1917, and a petitioned post office was never established, mail going to nearby Morchard instead.
