About Mitcham (SA)
Mitcham, formerly known as Mitcham Village, is an inner-southern suburb of Adelaide in the City of Mitcham, South Australia, and the seat of the council. Created as a village separate from Adelaide, it was ancillary to a sheep station at Brown Hill Creek belonging to the South Australia Company. Prior to British colonisation the area was inhabited by the Kaurna people, with about 150 Kaurna formerly camping at Wirraparinga, now Mitcham Reserve, which occupies what was used as the village green. The Church of England's Orphan Home for Girls moved to Fullarton Road in Upper Mitcham in 1909. Notable landmarks include the Mitcham Village Institute, Mitcham Village Uniting Church and Mitcham Square.
