About Hawthorn (SA)
Hawthorn is a residential suburb in the City of Mitcham, South Australia, located in inner Adelaide. Bounded by Cross Road to the north, Grange Road to the south, Sussex Terrace to the west and Belair Road to the east, the suburb is traversed by Brown Hill Creek. The heritage-listed St Columba's Anglican Church at 101 Cross Road is a Gothic-style building designed by architect Alfred Wells and built in 1898, becoming a parish in 1921. The former Hawthorn railway station on the Belair line operated until 1995. The Mitcham Memorial Gardens and Price Memorial Oval are located in the suburb, with the oval serving as home ground for the Mitcham Hawks Football Club.
