About Glandore
Glandore is a residential suburb of Adelaide, South Australia, located four kilometres south-west of the CBD, partly in the City of Marion and partly in the City of West Torrens. Situated between Glenelg and the city centre, the suburb is served by the Glenelg tram line with stops at South Road, Burke Street and Beckman Street. The name is believed to derive from Glandore in County Cork, Ireland, via early settler John O'Dea. The Glandore Community Centre occupies the site of historical institutions including the Edwardstown Girls Reformatory, Glandore Industrial School and Glandore Boys' Home. The Kaurna people inhabited the area for thousands of years before colonisation in 1836.
