About Beaumont (SA)

Beaumont is a hillside residential suburb in the City of Burnside, Adelaide, South Australia, located on the eastern side of Adelaide. Founded as a purpose-built village by Sir Samuel Davenport in 1848, the suburb was originally Kaurna Aboriginal land. Beaumont House, built around 1850 for Augustus Short, is now owned by the National Trust of South Australia. Beaumont Common is a notable English-style common park, originally fenced and gated with access restricted to village residents. The suburb is mentioned in Redgum's 1978 song Beaumont Rag.
