About Adelaide
Adelaide is the capital city of South Australia. Its city centre, planned by Colonel William Light in 1837 on a grid with five public squares and encircled by parklands, stands on the traditional lands of the Kaurna people, who know the area as Tarndanya. North Terrace is a cultural boulevard of museums, galleries and gardens, home to the Art Gallery of South Australia, the South Australian Museum, the State Library of South Australia and the Botanic Garden, while Rundle Mall and the Adelaide Central Market are shopping landmarks.
