About Hawkwood
Hawkwood is a remote rural locality in the North Burnett Region of Queensland, located about 65 kilometres west-southwest of Mundubbera and 430 kilometres northwest of Brisbane. The mountainous terrain includes notable peaks such as Mount Redhead at 490 metres and Mount Saul at 320 metres, alongside Auburn River National Park in the northeast featuring dramatic sandstone gorges, and Delembra and Koko State Forests. A police station was established at Hawkwood in 1881 but relocated to Eidsvold in 1889, and the area is part of the Auburn Hawkwood People's native title claim with the Auburn River and Mount Narayen of deep spiritual significance.
