About Meringandan West

Meringandan West is a rural locality in the Toowoomba Region of Queensland, located 23 kilometres north-north-west of the Toowoomba central business district and 146 kilometres west of Brisbane. Situated on the Darling Downs, Meringandan Creek forms the eastern boundary and Mount Muniganeen rises in the north-west. The name comes from the Gooneburra word meaning red soil or broken clay. Meringandan State School opened in 1876 and the annual Lilyvale Oval rodeo is a local tradition.
