About Mapleton
Mapleton is a town on the Blackall Range in Queensland's Sunshine Coast Region. It was first known as Blackall Range, then Luton Vale, before being officially named Mapleton in 1894 after an English village, at the suggestion of pioneer William Smith, who with his brother Thomas selected land there in 1889 and planted bananas. The district became a leading citrus-growing area, peaking in the early 1900s, and the Moreton Mill tramway was extended to the town in 1915.
