About Oakey

Oakey is a rural town in the Toowoomba Region of south-east Queensland, about 28 kilometres north-west of Toowoomba, on the eastern edge of the Darling Downs. The town and its creek are named for the river oaks that line the waterway, and the district was first settled by pastoralists in the early 1840s. Oakey is home to the Army Aviation Centre, whose airfield began as a World War II base and now hosts the Museum of Army Aviation.
