About Canal Creek
Canal Creek is a rural locality in the Livingstone Shire of Central Queensland, north of Rockhampton, taking its name from the creek that flows through it to the Fitzroy River. Grazing on native vegetation and plantation forestry are the main land uses, with the Pointer Range forming the south-western boundary. In December 1943 a US Army Air Forces C-47 flying from Townsville to Brisbane crashed at Canal Creek Cattle Station, killing all 31 people on board; a memorial near the site was dedicated in 2002.
