About Willowra
Willowra, also known as Wirliyatjarrayi, is a Warlpiri Aboriginal community in the Northern Territory's Central Desert region, about 340 km north-west of Alice Springs on the Lander River, bordering the Tanami Desert. The community grew out of Willowra pastoral station, whose land became Aboriginal freehold after a successful land claim in 1979. It is reached by a 130 km unsealed road running west from the Stuart Highway north of Ti Tree.
