About Ranken
Ranken is a locality in the east of the Northern Territory, adjoining the border with Queensland about 1,098 km south-east of Darwin, in the Barkly Region. It takes its name from the Ranken River, named in the 1860s after John Ranken, the pastoralist who first settled the area that became Avon Downs Station.
