About McArthur

McArthur is a vast, remote locality in the Gulf Country of the Northern Territory, about 965 kilometres south-east of Darwin and 50 kilometres west of Borroloola. The area covers tropical savanna woodland, seasonal floodplains and river country drained by the McArthur River flowing to the Gulf of Carpentaria. It is home to the McArthur River Mine, one of the world's largest zinc-lead operations, and lies within the traditional lands of the Yanyuwa, Garrwa, Gudanji and Marra peoples.
