About Delamere (NT)
Delamere is a rural locality in the Victoria River District of the Northern Territory, about 369 kilometres south of Darwin. It is named after Delamere Station, first settled in 1883 by Alfred Giles on behalf of Dr W. J. Browne and named after his Adelaide home. Delamere Station is the Northern Territory's second-oldest pastoral lease, assigned in 1878, and by 1884 was stocked with about 7,000 cattle. The locality, gazetted in April 2007, comprises several pastoral leases including Delamere, Willeroo and Dixie stations, together with the Delamere Air Weapons Range. The area is Wardaman country and includes the Lightning Brothers rock-art site, a significant example of Indigenous rock painting.
