About Birdum

Birdum is a former railway town in the Roper Gulf region of the Northern Territory, about 480 kilometres south of Darwin. From 1929 it was the southern terminus of the North Australia Railway, and during World War II it served as a military railhead and briefly the headquarters of American air forces after Darwin was bombed. The town was abandoned when the railhead moved to Larrimah.
