About Girraween (NSW)

Girraween is a suburb of Sydney, about 30 km west of the central business district in the Cumberland local government area of Greater Western Sydney. Its Aboriginal name means 'place of flowers', and the area was part of D'Arcy Wentworth's early colonial estate before being subdivided for housing around 1910. Now a diverse, largely residential suburb, it is known for its Tamil and Indian communities and the selective Girraween High School.
