About The Rocks (Sydney - NSW)
The Rocks is a historic precinct and suburb of Sydney's city centre on the southern shore of Sydney Harbour, immediately north-west of the Sydney CBD. Established shortly after the colony's formation in 1788, it was the first European settlement in Australia and takes its name from the local sandstone that provided building material for its convict-era structures. Today the area is a major tourist destination with cobblestone laneways, heritage sandstone buildings, weekend markets and some of Sydney's oldest pubs.
