About Kangaloon
Kangaloon is a village in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, in Wingecarribee Shire, at the northern edge of the Robertson basin. Its name is said to mean 'kangaroo landing ground' in the local Aboriginal language. The district, cleared from the 1860s, became productive dairying country supplying milk to Sydney, and in the 2000s it was the subject of a controversial plan to pump groundwater from the Kangaloon aquifer to top up the city's water supply, a proposal shelved in 2008.
