About Merriwagga
Merriwagga is a village in the northern Riverina of New South Wales, on the Kidman Way between Goolgowi and Hillston. Gazetted in 1924, it was settled as a service town for mallee farming blocks released in 1925, though many early settlers walked off their land during the Depression of the 1930s. The village is the heart of Black Stump Country, named for the death of pioneer woman Barbara Blain in 1886, and is on the Black Stump Trail.
