About Jiggi
Jiggi is a rural locality in the Jiggi Valley, about 23 kilometres north of Lismore in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, on the traditional lands of the Widjabul (Wia-bal) people of the Bundjalung nation. The name is said to come from an Aboriginal word, Jiguay, meaning the cry of a bird. Beef cattle farming is the main local industry. Jiggi Public School opened in 1899, the community hall was built in 1907, and the nearby Nightcap National Park offers rainforest walks.
