About Coutts Crossing
Coutts Crossing is a rural village in the Clarence Valley of northern New South Wales, on the banks of the Orara River about 18 kilometres south-west of Grafton along the Armidale-Grafton Road. The village is named after Thomas Coutts, a Scottish settler who took up the nearby Kangaroo Creek pastoral station in 1840, and grew in the 1860s as a service centre for the surrounding farming district. Today it has a tavern, general store, community hall and church, and most residents commute to Grafton. The district is commemorated in Geergarow Road, named after the early sheep station that preceded the village.
