About Capertee

Capertee is a village 46 km north of Lithgow, New South Wales, set on an elevated site about 808 metres above the Capertee Valley. It grew on the road between Lithgow and Mudgee after a railway from Wallerawang reached it in 1882. The village school began in a tent in 1882 before moving to a prefabricated building the following year.
