About Bruinbun

Bruinbun is a rural locality in the Central West region of New South Wales, located about 160 kilometres from Sydney in the Bathurst Regional local government area. Named for the Bruinbun granitoid pluton, a zoned I-type intrusion studied in geological literature, the area sits in the Hill End Trough, a Palaeozoic metasedimentary geological belt between the Macquarie and Turon Rivers. In 1837, pastoralist William Cummings purchased the 640-acre Bruinbun station on the Macquarie River, and his bridle track from Bruinbun to the Turon River crossing became an important early route to the Tambaroora and Hill End goldfields after 1851.
