About Lake Munmorah

Lake Munmorah is a suburb of the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia, located approximately 120 kilometres north-northeast of Sydney. The suburb is named after the adjacent Lake Munmorah, a shallow coastal lagoon that forms the northernmost part of the Tuggerah Lakes system, covering around 780 hectares and draining southward through Budgewoi Lake and Tuggerah Lake to the Tasman Sea. The area marks the traditional boundary between the Awabakal and Darkinjung Aboriginal peoples. The adjacent Munmorah State Conservation Area, established in 1977, encompasses coastal bushland, perched sand dunes, and beaches including Birdie and Frazer Beach, and is part of the Tuggerah Important Bird Area. The now-decommissioned Munmorah Power Station was a notable local landmark.
