About Towamba
Towamba is a village in the Bega Valley Shire on the far south coast of New South Wales, situated on the Towamba River about forty minutes west of Eden. Surveyed as the township of Sturt in 1859, it became an important staging point on the route prospectors took from Twofold Bay to the Kiandra goldfields during the 1860s. The town later served the surrounding district with a hotel, post office, butter factory and police station, and a goldfield opened nearby at Yambulla in 1899.
