About Grosses Plain
Grosses Plain is a rural locality in the Capital Region of New South Wales, located about 390 kilometres southwest of Sydney on the Monaro Plateau at approximately 1,000 metres elevation in the Snowy Monaro Regional local government area. Bounded by Barry Way, the partly unsealed alpine road offering views of the Snowy River valley and surrounding mountains, the landscape features rolling plains and hills characteristic of the Monaro, an ancient highland with basaltic bedrock near Nimmitabel. Adjacent to Kosciuszko National Park, the area supports grazing on sheep and cattle on some of the best chernozem soils in Australia.
