About Depot Beach

Depot Beach is a small coastal settlement on the South Coast of New South Wales, located about 15 kilometres north of Batemans Bay and 280 kilometres south of Sydney within Murramarang National Park. Named for its 19th-century use as a timber depot where hardwood logs were floated across the bay for collection, the settlement is entirely surrounded by national park bushland with crystal-clear waters, a sheltered cove, and a 600-metre beach backed by spotted gum forests and burrawang understory. Famous for eastern grey kangaroos that wander onto the beach at dusk, it offers world-class snorkelling, a rainforest walk showcasing an endangered littoral temperate rainforest community, and heritage remnants of the timber tramway system along the coast.
