About Cobargo

Cobargo is a village in Bega Valley Shire on the south coast of New South Wales, on the Princes Highway between Narooma and Bega, 386 kilometres south of Sydney. The area lies on the traditional lands of the Yuin people, and the name may come from the Aboriginal word cubago used for nearby Mount Gulaga. The turn-of-the-century streetscape has made the village a tourist destination with old-style stores, craft workshops, potteries, galleries and tea rooms, and a butter factory operated locally from 1901 to 1980. Wadbilliga National Park lies 20 kilometres west, and the village suffered heavy losses in the 2019-20 bushfires.
