About Burra (Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional - NSW)
Burra is a rural locality of smallholdings in the Queanbeyan-Palerang Region of New South Wales, about 20 kilometres south of Queanbeyan in the Burra Creek valley. The district was originally inhabited by the Ngarigo people, and early European settlers knew it as 'The Burra', possibly from the Ngarigo word 'berra', meaning boomerang. Grazing began in the 1830s, and the area was progressively subdivided into lifestyle blocks from the 1960s as nearby Canberra expanded.
