About Breadalbane (NSW)

Breadalbane is a small historic village on the headwaters of the Lachlan River in the Upper Lachlan Shire of New South Wales, on the Southern Tablelands not far from Goulburn. Renamed Breadalbane Plains by Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1820, it grew as a coaching stop on the old Hume Highway and was served by a railway station on the main southern line from 1875 until it closed in 1974. The district is remembered for a clash between Ben Hall's bushranger gang and Goulburn troopers in 1865, and the village retains the Chisholm Memorial Church, founded in memory of Caroline Chisholm.
