About Pithara
Pithara is a small town in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, about 240 km north of Perth in the Shire of Dalwallinu. Its name, an Aboriginal word for a nearby well, was first used for a railway siding on the Wongan Hills to Mullewa line and gazetted for the townsite in 1914. The town serves the surrounding wheat-growing farms and is a grain receival site, and Olympic gold medallist Shirley Strickland grew up on a farm here.
