About Box Hill South
Box Hill South is a residential suburb 14 km east of central Melbourne in the City of Whitehorse, with Gardiners Creek running across its southern part. In 1885 Tom Roberts, Frederick McCubbin and fellow artists camped on David Houston's property beside the creek, an early gathering point of the Heidelberg School of Australian painting. Suburban estates such as Golf Links (1924) followed the tramline's 1928 extension to Wattle Park, and a linear park and shared trail now follow the creek.
